How LGCs are calculated

Under the federal Large-scale Renewable Energy Target, a solar power station above 100 kW creates one LGC for every megawatt-hour of electricity it generates, verified against meter data each year until the scheme ends in 2030. Annual revenue = system size × specific yield (site production per kW) ÷ 1,000 × the LGC market price. Unlike STCs, LGCs are not deemed upfront; they pay out as an ongoing annual revenue stream. Announced 5 August 2026, the federal government intends to expand STC eligibility from 100 kW to 1 MW for solar installed from 1 October 2026, subject to regulations being made. Until those regulations are finalised, the 100 kW threshold between STCs and LGCs still applies.
