LGC Calculator Australia

Estimate Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) and annual certificate revenue for a commercial solar system above 100 kW.

Annual LGC revenue
$15,750
Certificates / year
350
Annual production
350 MWh

Estimate only. LGCs are created annually on metered generation; certificate prices fluctuate.

How LGCs are calculated

Under the federal Large-scale Renewable Energy Target, a solar power station above 100 kW creates one LGC for every megawatt-hour of electricity it generates, verified against meter data each year until the scheme ends in 2030. Annual revenue = system size × specific yield (site production per kW) ÷ 1,000 × the LGC market price. Unlike STCs, LGCs are not deemed upfront — they are an ongoing annual revenue stream.

Frequently asked questions

Who can claim LGCs for solar?
LGCs apply to solar power stations above 100 kW registered under the federal Large-scale Renewable Energy Target. Systems at or below 100 kW earn upfront STCs instead.
How are LGCs calculated?
One LGC is created for every megawatt-hour of electricity the system generates, verified against meter data each year until the scheme ends in 2030.
How much is an LGC worth?
LGC prices float with the certificate market; the calculator defaults to $45 — adjust it under Advanced to match your quote or broker pricing.
Can a system earn both STCs and LGCs?
Not on the same capacity. Systems at or below 100 kW take deemed upfront STCs; above 100 kW the system registers as a power station and earns LGCs annually. Amperage models the crossover when sizing.
