Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 August 2026
1. Who we are
Amperage operates amperage.app. We help Australian businesses estimate solar savings, analyse electricity bills, and compare system options. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
2. What we collect
Account details: Name, email address, and company name provided at signup.
Electricity data: Bills you upload (PDF images), consumption CSVs, and project parameters you enter for solar modelling.
Solar Insight & calculator submissions: Business type, state, postcode, electricity spend, and email address submitted through the free estimate flow or one of our public incentive calculators — plus, if you choose to provide them, your name, phone number, preferred contact method, and the address of the site being assessed.
Server logs: IP address, browser type, and timestamps, as with any web application.
Payment data: Processed by Stripe. We do not store card numbers or bank details.
3. How we use it
- Run solar sizing, savings, and incentive calculations based on your inputs.
- Extract tariff data from uploaded bills using AI (see section 5).
- Send account emails: verification, password resets, project notifications, and notices about changes to these policies, our pricing, or the service.
- Send product updates, tips, and other marketing emails — only if you have opted in (see section 4).
- Improve accuracy of estimates using aggregated, anonymised consumption patterns.
- Share your details with solar installers — only with your express consent, as described in section 6. We never do this without it.
4. Email & direct marketing
Account emails — verification, password resets, project and team notifications, billing receipts, notices about material changes to this policy, our terms, or the service, and trial or beta lifecycle notices (that your trial is ending or has ended, and the pricing to continue) — we send them for as long as your account exists.
Onboarding emails are account emails too: after you create an account we may reach out to help you get set up — for example, offering to walk you through a demo or your first project. These are about helping you use what you signed up for. Reply or email us to opt out of further onboarding contact.
Marketing emails — product updates, feature announcements, industry tips, and anything promoting paid upgrades or new products — are opt-in. You choose at signup, and you can turn them on or off at any time under Settings → Email Notifications. We do not switch them on for you.
Every marketing email carries a working unsubscribe link and identifies us as the sender, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Unsubscribes are actioned immediately and always within 5 business days.
We never sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for their own marketing. Free Solar Insight estimates and calculator reports are sent to the address you submit for them; we only pass your details to a solar installer with your express consent (section 6).
5. AI bill processing
When you upload an electricity bill, pages are sent as images to Anthropic's Claude API to extract tariff and consumption data. Anthropic does not use API inputs for model training. Bill images are not stored by Anthropic after processing.
We strip identifying information (business name, address, NMI, account numbers) from extracted data. Only consumption shape, tariff structure, and business type are retained.
Your uploaded bill is used only for solar modelling. The bill file itself is never shared with installers, advertisers, or any other third party — the only processing outside our systems is the AI extraction described above. If you consent to installer contact (section 6), installers receive a summary of your energy use and our modelling results — never the bill file.
6. Sharing with solar installers
We only share your details with solar installers if you give express consent — an unticked checkbox you choose to tick. Requesting an estimate, uploading a bill, or receiving a report does not by itself share anything with anyone.
- What is shared: your name, contact details, preferred contact method, the site address if you provided one, and a summary of your energy use and our system modelling. Never your uploaded bill or interval files.
- Who receives it: one accredited Australian solar installer, who may contact you about pricing your system. They are required to contact you only by the method you chose and to use your information solely to prepare and discuss that pricing.
- If you prefer no contact: you can purchase the bill-analysis report instead — nothing is shared with installers and no one will contact you.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing hello@amperage.app. Withdrawal stops any future sharing; where your details have already been passed to an installer, we will ask them to delete your information.
7. Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | Data region |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Authentication | US (auth tokens only) |
| Anthropic Claude | Bill image extraction | US (API processing) |
| Google Cloud Run | Application hosting | Sydney (au-southeast1) |
| PostgreSQL (Cloud SQL) | Database | Sydney (au-southeast1) |
| Stripe | Payment processing | AU / US |
| Resend | Transactional and marketing email | US |
| PostHog | Product analytics | EU |
8. Data storage
- All project data, bills, and consumption files are stored in PostgreSQL in Sydney.
- Files are stored as encrypted database records, not on disk.
- All connections use HTTPS. No data is transmitted unencrypted.
- Application access requires Firebase authentication.
9. Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account settings, or by emailing hello@amperage.app.
Solar Insight leads (free estimates without an account) are retained for 12 months, then automatically deleted.
Solar Insight projects follow the access link we email you. On the free tier, once that link expires (90 days) we strip the personal information — your email, the uploaded bill and interval files, and the name, address, account number and NMI read off the bill — and keep only de-identified usage and tariff shape.
On a paid Solar Insight tier your report stays available. We delete the source bill and interval files, and the personal details read off them, 12 months after the project is created; the report itself is unaffected. To have a project removed sooner, email hello@amperage.app.
10. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or outdated information.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Opt out of direct marketing at any time — via Settings → Email Notifications or the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have breached the APPs.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@amperage.app. We respond within 5 business days.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always at amperage.app/privacy. Material changes will be notified by email to account holders.
